WASHINGTON, DC – NOVEMBER 25: U.S. President Barack Obama delivers remarks with his daughters Sasha (L) and Malia during the annual turkey pardoning ceremony in the Rose Garden at the White House November 25, 2015 in Washington, DC. In a tradition dating back to 1947, the president pardons a turkey, sparing the tom — and his alternate — from becoming a Thanksgiving Day feast. This year, Americans were asked to choose which of two turkeys would be pardoned and to cast their votes on Twitter. (Photo by Chip Somodevilla/Getty Images)

Former President Barack Obama can’t get over how cool his daughters Malia and Sasha.

Speaking with PEOPLE, Barack shared how much he’s impressed with his kids.

”Let me tell you,” he began before Michelle chimed in. “Don’t get him started.”

“They are cooler, smarter, funnier… Those two, Malia and Sasha, are all that,” said Barack.

“If I were their age… I can barely keep up with them at the dinner table now,” he continued. “And if I were their contemporary, I would just sit there.”

Although they’re empty-nesters, Michelle noted that they reside in the nation’s capital.

“We still live in D.C. Our primary, primary residence is there because that’s where the kids’ friends are,” Michelle said. “When the kids come home from being away, they want to be with their friends.”

Unlike their famous parents, the Obama girls have remained out of the spotlight since leaving the White House.

After graduating from Harvard in 2021, Malia dropped her last name professionally to go by Malia Ann. Now a filmmaker, writer, and director, she contributed to the writing team for Amazon Prime’s 2023 thriller series Swarm. She made her directorial debut at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival with her short film, The Heart.

Meanwhile, her sister Sasha graduated from the University of Southern California in 2023. She is currently continuing her education, according to their mother.

“As my mom would say about us, and I have to say this about Malia and Sasha, as wonderful as they are, they just reflect back what their generation has to offer,” the former first lady says. “There are millions of amazing young people like our girls, and we see them every day.”

“I think this home that we call hope is a reminder that, however we feel in any given moment. We have a responsibility to retain that hope for the next generation that hasn’t had an opportunity to have a say,” she continued.
