On May 18, 2025, former President Joe Biden, 82, announced he has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that has metastasized to his bones. The cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9, is hormone-sensitive, offering potential treatment options.

In response, former President Barack Obama issued a heartfelt statement expressing his support for Biden. “Joe has been one of America’s most consequential presidents, as well as a dear friend and partner to me,” Obama wrote. He continued, “Today, we’ve also been reminded — again — that he’s a patriot of the highest order.”

Obama reflected on their partnership, stating, “Sixteen years ago, when I began my search for a vice president, I knew about Joe’s remarkable career in public service. But what I came to admire even more was his character — his deep empathy and hard-earned resilience; his fundamental decency and belief that everyone counts.”

Biden’s diagnosis has prompted an outpouring of support from across the political spectrum. Former President Donald Trump extended his best wishes for a speedy recovery, highlighting mutual respect amid political rivalry.

Biden expressed gratitude for the public’s support, sharing on social media, “Cancer touches us all. Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places.”

The diagnosis has reignited discussions on cancer awareness and the importance of early detection. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men, and once it spreads, the five-year survival rate drops significantly.
