Actor Ben Stiller made a surprising remark during the recent “Comics for Kamala” virtual fundraiser. Joining a star-studded lineup, Stiller pledged his support for Vice President Kamala Harris. He donated $150,000 to her campaign and made a bold statement that left many talking.
Praising Kamala Harris
Stiller expressed his excitement about the potential for Harris to win the presidential election. “What’s happened in the last couple of weeks—the turning of the tide—that Vice President Harris could actually win this thing if we all just rally around and take advantage of this incredible energy that’s happening,” he stated. He highlighted Harris as a candidate who embodies empathy and humor, praising her ability to connect with voters.
“She’s also a historic candidate,” Stiller added. “It’s going to be the first woman president, and that’s incredibly exciting. She’s Indian, she’s Black, she’s everything. You can be more than one thing, it’s incredible.”
Stiller’s Controversial Joke
During his speech, Stiller made a joke that caught many off guard. “I’m Jewish and Irish… I wish I was Black, every white Jewish guy wishes he was Black,” he quipped. Despite the lighthearted tone, his comment sparked a mix of reactions from the audience.
The event, hosted by comedian Paul Mercurio, featured several Hollywood stars, including Tiffany Haddish, Jon Hamm, Kathy Griffin, and Whoopi Goldberg. The fundraiser successfully raised over $500,000 for the Harris campaign, with $100,000 of that sum raised within the first 20 minutes.
Stiller’s involvement and sizable donation were part of a broader effort to energize young and old voters alike. “I’m here because I’m so genuinely excited about the potential to actually win this election,” he said. Stiller’s comments, though controversial, underscored his enthusiasm for the campaign and his desire to see a “decent person” in the White House.
