The time has come to commemorate the women who dominated 2019 and took the world by storm! Forbes magazine salutes Oprah Winfrey, Rihanna, Beyonce, Ava DuVerney and Serena Williams by naming these ladies the “World’s 100 Most Powerful Women.”
Ranking in at number 20, Oprah Winfrey had a successful year which includes the success of her network, OWN. It was reported that the media mogul invested nearly $2 billion to launch her new ventures.
Rihanna continues to thrive as a businesswoman appearing at #61. Following the launch of her Fenty cosmetic brand, she earned over $560 million in revenue. Earlier this year she launched her Savage x Fenty lingerie brand with an iconic fashion show that had folks talking for days! In addition, RiRi partnered with LVMH to launch a new project in Paris.
Queen Beyonce is also on the list at #66. And that is all thanks to her On the Run II tour with her husband Jay-Z. Who can forget her Homecoming special on Netflix featuring her stellar April 2018 Coachella performance? Beyonce gifted us with the soundtrack titled The Gift for The Lion King and she was the voice of Nala.
Film-maker Ava DuVernay made history this year! Coming in at #79, DuVernay’s When They See not only won an Emmy, but it is the most-watched series on the streaming on Netflix. She was also the first Black woman to receive a nod from the Academy as a director in a feature category, and the first Black woman to direct a $100-million-grossing film, A Wrinkle In Time.
Serena Williams may have won 23 Grand Slam titles but she knows how to make her money! Did you know she is a partial owner of UFC and the Miami Dolphins? In addition, she invested in 34 startups within the last five years and her Serena Ventures group is worth a minimum of $10 million. Williams pays it forward by investing in businesses founded by women.
