Black women have been preserving the Biden White House. In the latest news, history has set a new milestone. On Monday, the president placed a Black woman in direct control of leading his legislative plans through Congress. Shuwanza Goff has been declared Director of the Office of Legislative Affairs. Goff has prior experience on Capitol Hill and in the administration; in advance of her leaving the White House to work with a D.C. lobbying firm, she was the Deputy Director of Legislative Affairs.

“As my Deputy Director of Legislative Affairs, Shuwanza helped pass monumental pieces of legislation through Congress: from the American Rescue Plan and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill to the Chips and Science Act and the Inflation Reduction Act,” the president stated in an announcement regarding her designation.

“Shuwanza’s close partnership with my decades-long friends in the House and Senate, and her expertise, instincts, and deep respect for the United States Congress will continue to serve our Administration and the American people well.” Goff is a renowned Capitol Hill vet, and she’s regarded as an extraordinary leader in advocating for Democratic lawmakers’ agendas. This appointment, along with that of Vice President Kamala Harris, Council of Economic Advisers Chair Cecilia Rouse, and Associate Supreme Court Justice Kentaji Brown Jackson, asserts them as the first black women to receive their political titles.

Additionally, her nomination starts at the beginning of a splenetic campaign after prior administrations had moved their nucleus away from approving crucial legislation. Regardless of political complications, Biden’s administration reports that “we’ve demonstrated in the past several months is that the president’s agenda—Bidenomics, whatever you want to call it—is working. Black unemployment is lower than it’s been in decades, unemployment overall is lower.” They continued “We’ve just got to implement what is already in place.”
