Black Girls Rock! Awards To Return After 5-Year Hiatus

The Black Girls Rock! Awards is set to make its triumphant return to television screens this fall after a five-year absence, now finding its home on Lifetime following its previous airing on BET.

For over a decade, the annual event has been a beacon of empowerment, celebrating the remarkable achievements of Black women across various fields, from entertainment to activism to entrepreneurship.

Founder Beverly Bond expressed her motivation for creating the platform in a post on Instagram.

“I created Black Girls Rock because I recognized that the condition of black girls could only change when we are the authors of our own stories.”

This year’s honorees will join the prestigious ranks of past recipients such as MC Lyte, Missy Elliott, and Erykah Badu, among others. The awards ceremony, known for its star-studded lineup and inspiring speeches, aims to amplify the voices of Black women who are icons, innovators, and change-makers.

In a groundbreaking partnership with Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens, the Black Girls Rock! Awards will take place in Atlanta, a city renowned for its vibrant cultural heritage. Mayor Dickens expressed his enthusiasm, in a statement.

“We are thrilled that Atlanta has been selected as the host city for the 2024 Black Girls Rock! Awards,” he expressed. “We know that Atlanta is the city that influences everything and the perfect place to host such a historic and influential event.”

The event is set to be recorded live in Atlanta this summer at the Fox Theatre and will showcase a broader celebration of Black women’s achievements, including The BGR! Expo, the annual BGR! Film Festival, The Black Cloud Tech Summit, and the BGFEST concert series.

Bond emphasized Atlanta’s significance in this partnership, highlighting the city as a critical juncture for the brand’s evolution.

“Atlanta’s vibrant cultural heritage provides the ideal backdrop for our celebration,” Bond said, emphasizing the city’s role in shaping the event’s legacy of empowerment and cultural enrichment.

This monumental return of the Black Girls Rock! Awards marks not only a celebration of past accomplishments but also a recommitment to uplifting and inspiring future generations of Black women worldwide.
