American Airlines is being called out by David Ryan Harris, a Black musician, for accusing him of trafficking his mixed children.
Harris went on Instagram to explain the ordeal that happened as he was traveling from Atlanta to Los Angeles. Harris, who has played with various artists including John Mayer and Dave Matthews, said that the flight attendant asked his seven year old son his name and was alarmed when he didn’t answer her. He stated that his son is shy and that he was not in any danger because he was traveling with his father and brother.
He went on to talk about how he and his children were met by four police officers and an AA employee once their flight landed in LA.
“Apparently, a flight attendant had called ahead with some sort of concern that perhaps my mixed children weren’t my children, because they were unresponsive during an interaction with her.”
After they were let go by the employee, without an apology, the musician said, “I wanted to go through the roof, but I didn’t want my kids to see me handle the situation with anything other than grace, class, and me not losing my mind.”
Harris went back on Instagram a few days later to reveal that he was contacted by someone from American Airlines. They explained to him that the flight attendant was reacting off of a trigger as they are trained to look out for human trafficking victims.
At the end of the call, he was given an apology and 10,000 frequent flyer miles, however it looks like he won’t be flying with them for a while.
