Brandy Norwood is set to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on March 30. Billboard reports that the R&B legend will be joined by Issa Rae and Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, who will speak at the induction, while Sibley Scoles will serve as the emcee. Walk of Fame producer Ana Martinez spoke to why Norwood’s legacy has cemented her place on the sidewalk of stars.

“Brandy has captivated audiences for decades with a voice and artistry that helped shape modern R&B and inspire generations of performers, said Martinez. “Honoring her with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is a celebration of not only her extraordinary music career, but also her lasting impact on television, film, and popular culture.”

Brandy’s Legacy

The “Full Moon” star hit the scene in the early 1990s. She first appeared on the short-lived sitcom Thea, before releasing her self-titled debut album. The album was certified quadruple platinum, led by hit singles, “I Wanna Be Down” and “Baby. In 1996, she would star in her own sitcom, Moesha for five seasons. She would also star alongside Whitney Houston in 1997 in the TV film of Cinderella.

Often regarded as the “vocal bible,” her 1998 duet with Monica, “The Boy is Mine” won a Grammy in 1998. The song also topped the Billboard Hot 100 for 13 weeks. It is still the longest-running No.1 song by two female collaborators. Babyface, who received his star in 2013, wrote Brandy’s hit song, “Sittin’ Up in My Room,” for the Waiting to Exhale soundtrack in 1995. The star will come just a day before the release of her biography, Phases: A Memoir on March 31.

Brandy continues to collect her flowers this year. She was also honored back in January by the Black Music Collective alongside Pharrell Williams and Kirk Franklin.
