Brian McKnight is seeking a new way to serve fellow singer, Jaguar Wright, as he is suing her for defamation, accusing her of evading service.
Reports reveal that McKnight has filed a motion asking a judge for permission to “serve Wright through public advertisements in The Arizona Republic.” The lawsuit was filed nearly three months ago, and it comes from the claims that Wright made online about the “Back At One” singer, but the legal proceedings have been halted because McKnight’s legal team has not been able to serve Wright.
His lawyers say that they have made several attempts since May to “hand-deliver” the lawsuit to Wright’s home in Phoenix, but have been unsuccessful. They have also tried to have the lawsuit sent via certified mail, but those attempts have also failed.
Ryan Saba, McKnight’s lawyer, said in a statement, “It is apparent that Wright is evading service. Given that McKnight made reasonable attempts to serve Wright, and Wright is evading service by refusing to answer the door or open the door, or to sign the return receipt, service by publication is necessary to provide notice of McKnight’s complaint.”
If McKnight’s motion is granted, he will be allowed to publish the legal notices in the newspaper. What are your thoughts on this?
