Cam Newton loves his role as a father so much so that he wants to expand the clan.

The retired NFL star, 35, has six biological children and two stepchildren and told PEOPLE that he would like to have more kids.

Newton shares four children with ex-girlfriend Kia Proctor. The athlete also helped raise her eldest daughter, Shakira — born in February 2007 — whom she welcomed in a prior relationship. (Newton referred to Shakira as his “first child” in a 2017 Instagram post, which has since been deleted.)

The former NFL star and Proctor split in 2020, after she discovered that he was unfaithful.

Newton shares two children with photographer LaReina Shaw. Most recently, he welcomed a baby girl in 2024 with his girlfriend, Jasmin Brown. When asked how many more kids he wants, Newton said, “I don’t know, wherever much that God gives me.”

“Did I tell you I want more?” Newton told the outlet when asked about his kids. He also shared that he doesn’t know when he’ll feel like his family is complete.

“I don’t know, wherever much that God gives me,” he said when asked how many more kids he’d want. “But jokingly, and not jokingly, they really give me my purpose and there’s so many different things that I look at to say, they’re my refuge. They’re my peace. They’re my encouragement.”

“I proudly say I have 8 children. Six biologically through me. And I don’t believe in stepchildren,” Newton said during the “Club Shay Shay” podcast in April 2024. “What my biological kids get, everybody gets. I don’t have no favorites. I’m raising kings and queens.”

Newton has previously shared his desire to have more children with multiple women while choosing to avoid marriage. In a 2024 interview with celebrity psychologist Dr. Cheyenne Bryant, he explained his decision to remain single. During the conversation, he acknowledged having eight children with three different women and expressed his interest in expanding his family further.

“A lot of people see my situation and think that I’m not ‘high-functioning’…I’m not married…I have beautiful children…my desire to get married is lower than my fear of divorce,” the former Carolina Panthers quarterback explained, The Jasmine Brand reported.
