Candiace Dillard Bassett, best known for her R&B music career and time on The Real Housewives of Potomac, has announced the birth of her first child. The 37-year-old singer and her husband, Chris Bassett, 46, welcomed their baby boy, Jett Maxwell Lee Bassett, on October 3. The couple introduced Jett to the world in an interview with PEOPLE, where Dillard Bassett spoke warmly about the new joy her son has brought into their lives.

“He is just the cutest little thing,” she shared. “Chris and I couldn’t be happier. It’s so cliché, but he’s brought such joy to our lives in ways I never would have been able to describe before. It’s pure love!”
The name Jett holds special meaning for Dillard Bassett, who carefully selected it. “The meaning of his name was really important to me,” she explained. “There were a lot of names I liked, but once I read the meaning of Jett, I knew it was perfect.” She added that one of his two middle names, Lee, honors her father’s middle name.
Naming their son was not a simple decision for the couple, though. “I’d been throwing names out to Chris throughout my pregnancy, and most of the ones I liked, he’d say, ‘Those sound like nepo baby names,’” she laughed. Ultimately, they both felt that Jett was the right fit, and she joked, “They can call him J.B.”
Now a month into motherhood, Dillard Bassett finds herself more excited than ever about the journey ahead. “Oh, I wish I started sooner, because I already want more,” she admitted. Reflecting on her hesitation to become a mother, she said, “All those fears and doubts? They were so real, but now it’s just everything I hoped for and more. I love it.”
Motherhood has already shifted her perspective. “When he was born, he was just this tiny little thing. Now he’s already filling out, and it’s amazing to watch him grow,” she said.
With Jett already fitting right into the family, Dillard Bassett is looking forward to the memories they’ll create. She laughed, “We’re going to have fun together, can’t you tell?”
