Cardi B is suing her ex-manager Klenord “Shaft” Raphael for $15 million. She accuses Shaft of negligent bookkeeping and using “his position of trust as a fiduciary to extract a larger portion of [her] earnings.”
Shaft was taking 50 percent of her royalties from Atlantic Records and the copyright to all of her audio and video recordings, according to the lawsuit. Cardi says Shaft told her this was “fair and normal.”
Cardi also claims Shaft tried to control her personal life, even going as far as to meddle in her relationship with Offset. The lawsuit says that “if he thought someone was getting too close to Ms. Almanzar, he would push that person away.”
This lawsuit is in response to a $10-million suit filed by Shaft against Cardi B for breach of contract and defamation in April, 2018.
Until their dramatic split, Shaft had managed Cardi since she was a stripper and Instagram star. He was the one who organized her appearance on VH1’s “Love and Hip-Hop,” which greatly bolstered her career.
