Rapper Cardi B says her divorce from Offset has not been finalized because of financial demands and tax issues, despite their legal separation. She described the situation during recent livestreams and interviews, saying the split is being delayed by what she considers unfair conditions.
“The only reason why I’m still married is because somebody wants me to pay for their taxes,” Cardi B said in an X Spaces livestream on September 22. She alleged Offset is demanding she pay his tax liabilities and surrender one of her properties before agreeing to finalize the divorce.
Cardi B added, “On a contract, I’m practically still married, because somebody [wants to] hold me hostage.” She insists the situation is less about love and more about what she considers coercive financial leverage.
Legal Separation vs. Final Divorce
Although Cardi B and Offset are not divorced in the eyes of the court, she says they are “legally separated.” She emphasizes that separation status does not yet resolve all obligations. Property division, tax demands, and other monetary claims remain unresolved.
She has also called the process “not peaceful at all,” saying in an interview that court proceedings have been tense.
Cardi B, 32, and Offset, 33, share three children: Kulture, Wave and Blossom. In 2024 she filed for divorce again after earlier attempts in 2020.
While awaiting finalization, Cardi B is expecting a fourth child with her current partner, NFL wide receiver Stefon Diggs. She said amidst the legal friction that she is focused on her wellbeing and her career.
Cardi B says she will not accept terms she deems exploitative. She asserted she will fight for what she views as fairness. The divorce remains in limbo until both sides either come to an agreement or a court orders resolution. Legal experts say tax liabilities and property claims often complicate divorces, especially when one spouse objects to conditions.
