One of hip hop’s fiercest female rappers shines on the cover of W Magazine!
Belcalis Almanzar also known as Cardi B opens up in the latest issue about life as a mom and her struggles. She reveals although she is starting to feel better, she is still very vulnerable.
Earlier this year, Cardi welcomed her daughter Kulture, with husband Offset. While she’s enjoying mommy hood, she is also faced with struggles that most moms endure after giving birth. The rapper opens up about post-pregnancy life, the good and the bad. During her interview, Cardi is transparent, real and raw. She even shed light on post pregnancy issues that are often overlooked.
Cardi explains:
“People don’t really talk about what you go through after pregnancy. Like, they don’t tell you that you get stitches down there or that your first two weeks you’re constipated. Or that you get contractions because of breastfeeding. I wasn’t expecting that.”
She also shared that she dealt with a lot of emotions when Kulture was born.
“When Kulture was born, I felt like I was a kid again; everything was making me cry, and I needed a lot of love. I be feeling like do babies know who’s they mom? I feel like babies love whoever is giving them the milk, and I want to give the milk the whole time. I want her to know me.”
After finding out she was pregnant, Cardi was fearful that having a child might have derailed her success.
“When I got pregnant, I was f*cking freaking out. Everybody around me was like, ‘No, this never happened before. Every artist that has a baby, they already put in years in the game. This is your first year. You’re going to mess it up. How are you going to make it?”
Through it all, Cardi B proves that you can achieve it all while being a mother. It’s never easy; you just have to stay the course.
