Carl Anthony Payne III speaks on why he believed that the hit show Martin was canceled after five seasons.

During a recent appearance on the “MATH HOFFA” podcast, Payne, who played the role of Cole Brown, said it was because of the bosses who were there at the time.

“They knew it was turmoil in the camp, or just that, you know, that things weren’t gelling with folks, you know, and I believe they ignored it,” he said.

He added that he believe that the managers ignored the energy shift of the show’s cast because they wanted to reach 100 episodes. As the interview continued, he was later asked about the situation between his co-stars, Tisha Campbell and Martin Lawrence.

“I don’t speak on that kind of stuff, man. I don’t speak on it because it ain’t got nothing to do with me, he said. Back in 1997 Campbell, who played Gina Waters, filed a lawsuit against Lawrence claiming that he had sexually assaulted her on and off camera and things got worse once she got engaged.

In another interview, Payne spoke on the drama and said, “I mean, you know, every family has its drama, its trials and tribulations, and things like that. And every good thing must come to an end.”

He continued, “I think it could have gone on longer, but it is what it is until it ain’t.”

In 2020, Martin also spoke about the show’s cancellation. “Well, how can I say this? It just was time to end. Let’s just put it that way. It was just, at that time, there was some, um, there were some things that was being said that.”

He also spoke about Campbell’s legal claims against him. “We don’t need to talk about something that just didn’t happen. So I just decided to walk away from the show. I just decided to end it. People said that it got canceled, but that wasn’t the case. I decided to just leave the show.”

Lawrence also made it clear that he and Tisha are on good terms now. “I love Tisha. I’ve seen her then and now, now and then, always with nothing but love. I have nothing but love for her, and I always have.”
