Celine Dion’s health continues to decline as she battles the neurological disorder, stiff person syndrome.
According to her sister, Claudette, the singer has lost control of her muscles, although she is working hard to return to her best self. In a video she posted on her Instagram, in English and French, Claudette wanted to update Celine’s fans on her condition.
“What breaks my heart is that she’s always been disciplined,” Claudette said. “She’s always worked hard. Our mother always told her, ‘You’re going to do it well, you’re going to do it properly.”
She added, “It’s true that in both our dreams and hers, the goal is to return to the stage. In what capacity? I don’t know.” Celine Dion’s sister claims that her condition is rare and it affects about one person out of millions. As reported by the Cleveland Clinic, stiff person syndrome is a rare autoimmune neurological disorder that causes muscle stiffness and painful muscle spasms.
The symptoms of this disorder vary from person to person and there is no cure for it. However, treatments can help slow the progression of Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS).
Dion was diagnosed with SPS in December 2022 after she posted a heartfelt video on her Instagram account, where she revealed that she had to cancel a portion of her European tour.
She said that she had been having some health issues that she had been dealing with for a long time. “I have to admit it’s been a struggle. All I know is singing, it’s what I’ve done all my life. I have hope that I am on the road to recovery. This is my focus and I am doing everything that I can to recuperate.
We will continue to keep Celine Dion in our prayers.
