Chaka Khan addresses her comments after she was accused of being shady to her fellow singers including Mariah Carey, Adele, and Mary J. Blige.
During an appearance on “The Originals” podcast, she talked about Rolling Stone’s 200 Greatest singers of all time list, where she said that the people who made the list needed hearing aids when it came to Mary J. Blige landing higher than her on the list and was seemingly dismissive about Beyoncé’s and Adele’s placement.
Since then, the legendary singer has issued an apology on social media. “Recently, I was asked about a list of the ‘greatest singers of all time’ and instead of questioning the need for such a list, I was pitted against other artists and I took the bait,” she wrote. “As artists, we are unfairly put into ‘boxes,’ ‘categories’ or on ‘lists.’ Being an artist or musician is not a competition. It’s a gift, for which I am truly grateful.”
Khan continued, “It was not my intention to cause pain or upset anyone. To anyone that felt this way, I sincerely apologize. Empowering all artists is most important because we truly are the architects of change … and change begins within the heart.”
What are your thoughts on this? Do you think that Chaka Khan should have apologized for expressing herself?
