Chance The Rapper’s Wife Files For Divorce After 5 Years Of Marriage

Chance the Rapper and his wife, Kirsten Corley, are officially ending their marriage after just five years. Kirsten reportedly initiated the filing, citing irreconcilable differences.

The filing comes eight months after the pair revealed in a joint statement that they had split.

TMZ was the first to report on the couple’s separation.

“After a period of separation, the two of us have arrived at the decision to part ways,” wrote the hip-hop star and his wife on Instagram in April. “We came to this decision amicably and with gratitude for the time we spent together.”

The estranged couple share two daughters, Kensli and Marli, who currently live with Kirsten. In the divorce petition, Kirsten is seeking child support to benefit their children and has waived spousal support, according to TMZ. Court records reveal the pair had a prenuptial agreement in place.

In the estranged couple’s April statement, they wrote that they planned to co-parent their young children: “God has blessed us with two beautiful daughters who we will continue to raise together.”

Chance and Kirsten have known each other since they were kids. As People reports, Chance first met Kirsten at an office party with his mom at only 9 years old. The pair reconnected at the South by Southwest film festival in 2012, but they officially began dating in 2013.

They became engaged in March 2019 and were married in June of the same year at the Pelican Hill Resort in Newport Beach, California.

“I knew I was gonna marry that girl,” Chance posted to X days before the ceremony, reminiscing on their first encounter. “Sixteen years later it’s happening. This wknd is the time, and the place is my wedding. I’m gonna dance with my wife because this is my destiny.”

Despite their split, Chance and Kirsten reunited in October to take their daughters to watch Simone Biles and other U.S. gymnasts on the Gold Over America Tour. “Took the girls to see @goldoveramericatour and meet some of the greatest athletes to grace the earth!” he wrote alongside a sweet Instagram snap of his family posing with Biles and her husband, Jonathan Owens.

“Thanks so much @simonebiles for taking time to meet my kids while they’re on their own journey through gymnastics. And thanks to all the athletes who put on an amazing show at @unitedcenter.”
