Charles Barkley found himself in the hot seat with Tina Knowles after he made jokes about Galveston, Texas.
On Saturday night’s edition of Inside the NBA, the Hall of Famer made some jokes about the New Orleans Pelicans and Galveston, Texas. According to reports, he called out the Pelicans for quitting game 3 against the Oklahoma City Thunder and said that the team wasn’t deserving of a flight to Cancun, Mexico but should “drive down to Galveston to see that dirty a** water.”
Although the jokes went viral on social media and fans thought that they were funny, however, one person who didn’t think so was Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles. Knowles, who was born in Galveston, received the clip from her son-in-law, Jay-Z, and responded to Barkley on Instagram.
“Chuck we don’t play about Galveston, Texas!,” she wrote. “You better watch it sucker! Our water might not be blue, but it is still the beach and we love it! In fact, what you probably don’t know is it’s an island.”
Knowles continued, “Yes me and @angiebeyince still rock our BOI necklaces (Born on the island). Jay sent this to me and Angie B Yesterday! He asked us if we’re gonna let him talk about our city like tha! All good @charleswbarkley we got a great laugh. So y’all don’t start no s***.”
Barkley would later apologize to Knowles and say, “I don’t want that smoke. I don’t want the Beyhive and Jay after me.”
