Last November, we reported that award-winning journalist Chauncy Glover unexpectedly passed away at 39.

He was found unresponsive in his Los Angeles home and pronounced dead a short time later by fire department personnel. The day after his death, the deputy medical examiner conducted an autopsy, and Glover’s cause of death has been revealed.

According to reports, Glover died from “acute intoxication by the combined effects of chloroethane and methamphetamine.” The Environmental Protection Agency says that chloroethane, also known as ethyl chloride, is a colorless gas used as a solvent, topical anesthetic, and in manufacturing chemicals and pharmaceuticals.

Glover’s death was ruled an accident and the full report will be ready by the end of March. It’s unknown how Chauncy Glover came in contact with the colorless gas. Glover, an Alabama native, joined CBS News’ Los Angeles affiliate KCAL in 2023. Before going to LA, he made history by becoming the first main Black anchor at KTRK in Houston.

He has also worked for stations in Detroit, Columbus, and Jacksonville. The late journalist’s family said in a statement after his death that he was “more than a son and brother- he was a beacon of light in our lives and a true hero to his community,” and that “Chauncy’s compassion and dedication to helping others changed countless lives and inspired so many young men to pursue their dreams.”

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this time. May he rest in peace.
