Cheslie Kryst Remembered During The 2022 Miss USA Pageant Eight Months After Her Passing

Cheslie Kryst was honored during the 2022 Miss USA Pageant almost eight months after her tragic passing.

Kryst, who died by suicide, was remembered by pageant correspondent Christian Murphy during the October 3rd show. “If you’re lucky in life, you get the chance to know someone who lights up a room, makes every moment seem better, and makes you feel important with a simple gesture or a word. That was Cheslie Kryst.”

Murphy also spoke on the impact that she left behind. “Now, I had the privilege to work alongside her, and her accomplishments were literally endless,” he said. “Cheslie was crowned Miss USA 2019. And in the words of her family, she embodied love, and served others, whether through her work as an attorney fighting for social justice, as Miss USA, and as a host on Extra. Most importantly as a daughter, sister, friend, mentor, and colleague.”

He added, “We know her influence will live on, and tonight we honor Cheslie. We were lucky to have her if for only what seems like a fleeting moment, and even more blessed that her light lives on.”

It was reported in July that the organization had plans to honor the TV correspondent which included moving the pageant to the building where Kryst was crowned in 2019.

“In honor of Cheslie’s memory, we found it to be a fitting full circle moment that this year, the 2022 Miss USA pageant will be held at the same venue in Reno, Nevada, Crystle Stewart, Miss USA Organization President said. “Not only as a way to keep Cheslie’s legacy alive but also to pay homage to the great city of Reno.”

Cheslie Kryst’s legacy will live on forever.
