Ciara’s iconic debut single, “Goodies,” almost had a different destiny. During a recent appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Ciara revealed that the song was originally intended for pop superstar Britney Spears. “I learned about this later,” Ciara shared. “They were trying to give my song to Britney Spears.”

While the track ultimately became a career-defining hit for the artist, she holds no hard feelings towards Spears. “I know Britney wasn’t the one trying to take my song, because I love Britney,” she added with a laugh.

Released in 2004, “Goodies” marked the beginning of Ciara’s meteoric rise in the music industry, earning her a 4x platinum certification. However, in an alternate universe, the track might have propelled Britney Spears even further into the pop stratosphere. Instead, it became the anthem that introduced Ciara’s unique blend of R&B and hip-hop.

Ciara Celebrates ‘Goodies’ Anniversary and New Music

The revelation about “Goodies” comes as the singer marks a significant milestone in her career — the 20th anniversary of her debut album. To celebrate, Ciara has released a special limited edition of the Goodies album, featuring a hot pink vinyl that includes bonus tracks like “Crazy” and “Represent Me.”

“It’s wild to think that it’s been 20 years since ‘Goodies,’” Ciara reflected during the interview. “The support from my fans over all these years has been incredible.”

In addition to celebrating her past, Ciara is also looking to the future. She recently dropped a new single, “Wassup,” featuring hip-hop legend Busta Rhymes. The energetic track is described by Ciara as a “fun flex record,” bringing a Y2K vibe with modern flair. “Busta ‘slaughtered’ the track with his classic, undeniable, and unstoppable flow,” Ciara said.

Busta Rhymes echoed her enthusiasm, saying, “Y’all are in trouble because The Queen CiCi and The Dragon got a Banger!! That’s Wassup!!”

With new music and a nostalgic celebration of her debut, Ciara is continuing to solidify her place in the music industry.
