Claressa Shields is putting money on the line for any woman that can “whoop” her.
On a Dec 5, Shields visited Justin Laboy’s podcast, #RESPECTFULLY: The Justin Laboy Show,’ to discuss her rise to boxing stardom. In the episode, the Flint, Michigan native boldly announced that she has $100,000 for any woman who believes they can “whoop her a**.”
“I got 100K for any girl that can whoop my a**. She can come out to my gym. I have a 100K right there.” She continued, “She whoop me, I’ll give her 100K. Now, [if] she lose, she can get the f**k on. But, I know for a fact, a chick off the street can’t whoop me. Girls who train their whole life can’t whoop me. What the hell somebody on the street going to do?”
Shields asserted that the level or duration of training from her opponent wouldn’t matter in a match, because she’ll always come out on top. “Listen, I don’t care about how much boxing experience they got, who they train with, if they did coke [cocaine] before we fought, I don’t care what you’re talking about. You whooping my a** is not… Listen, I don’t think there’s a lot of men that can beat me.”
Later in the episode, Shields addressed her public spat between her and Laila Ali. Shields had been beckoning for a fight against Ali for years. While this never prompted much of a response from Ali (who is 17 years older than Shields and hasn’t entered the ring since 2007), things changed once Ali said she would consider fighting Shields if she were offered $15-20 million earlier this year.
“She’s 47. I’m 30. I’m pound-for-pound number one fighter in the world. Just let it go. Let it go.” Shields continued, “I made my video back to clear the air, and let the people know, ‘Don’t be fooled by that bull crap, lies. People fabricating a story and mixing up storylines and stuff. Don’t be fooled by that.”
“She’s not going to fight against me. And guess what? It’s bigger and better fish to fry. That’s cool. It’s not stopping nothing. With her video, she tried to defame my character. She spoke about things outside of boxing.”
