Coco Jones is excited that she signed up to be engaged to NBA star Donovan Mitchell.
Jones spoke to PEOPLE and said that Mitchell’s proposal was “indescribable.”
”I think about my life so much like a business. And I’m like, ‘Girl, you’ve got to stop. This is the biggest contract I’ve ever signed.’ You know what I’m saying? This is a real-life, forever commitment,” Jones said. “I talk about forever, I sing about forever, and then I’m like, ‘Oh, this is really forever. Okay, word up, word up.’”
She went on to feel “a mix of emotions” about the major life development. “It’s exciting, it’s intimidating, and it’s just powerful.”
Jones spoke about how Mitchell was on hand at several of the shows last year, and she has attended his games.
”It’s a blessing to have somebody who also gives a lot to their career and to their brand,” says Jones. “Sometimes in friendships, I’d be like, ‘I’m so sorry. I just gave all of myself, and I ain’t got anything else.’ And I feel like sometimes people don’t understand that. They’re like, ‘Girl, what? You’re doing your job. I’m doing my job. What are you talking about?”
Because they are both ambitious, the relationship works.
“We both go really hard for the things we love, and they’re demanding careers,” she explains. “I feel like we speak a different language that makes me really feel seen. He’s my biggest cheerleader. So I feel like I’m never able to doubt myself in his presence. It’s just not going down like that.”
When it comes to their wedding, Jones would love for it to be a secret. But she realizes how hard it would be to keep that from their fans.
“If it was up to me, y’all wouldn’t know,” exclaims Jones. “But I have to give a little because that ain’t right. It’s mostly going to be private and intimate. And with a sprinkle of sharing is caring.”
