Congrats! NBC News’ Kristen Welker Is Expecting Her First Child

A huge congratulations is in order for NBC’s News journalist, Kristen Welker as she announced that she is expecting her first child with her husband, John Hughes.

Welker, 44, made the announcement on her Twitter account. The tweet read, “After years and years of trying, I’m having a baby girl with John and we are so excited,” she continued, “It’s with the help of a surrogate.”  See the entire tweet below.

With it being Infertility Awareness Week, Welker decided to share her personal story about her struggles to conceive after marrying Hughes in 2017. The couple decided to use in vitro fertilization.

“First round of IVF went really well and I thought, ‘I’m going to be pregnant within the next few months, no problem,’” she said. However, Welker received the news that the lining of her uterus was too thin to carry a baby successfully.

Although not an easy decision, she finally accepted that she wouldn’t be able to carry her own child but she never gave up hope. She was able to find a team of support through surrogacy.

In a letter she wrote to her unborn daughter, Welker said, “So, with an incredible team (or surrogacy agency) and family support system, your daddy and I found a special helper who has turned into our hero.”

Congrats again to the happy couple.
