Cynthia Ervio has landed her next role!
The actress will play Jesus Christ in the upcoming production of “Jesus Christ Superstar” at the Hollywood Bowl. The musical will take place between Friday, August 1st to Sunday, August 3rd.
Ervio is no stranger to this musical. In 2020, she performed “I Don’t Know How to Love Him” from She Is Risen, an all-female version of Jesus Christ Superstar. According to reports, “Jesus Christ Superstar” was released as a “concept album,” and it’s returning to its rock roots at the Hollywood Bowl.”
It will feature music from Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber and it will be directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Sergio Trujillo. Stephen Oremus will be the musical director and conductor and the casting will be by The Telsey Office with its production in association with Neil Meron and Robert Greenblatt.
After the album was released in 1970, the musical debuted on Broadway the following year. It tells the story of Jesus Christ in his final days before he was crucified. The play focuses on “the complex relationship between Jesus and his disciple-turned-betrayer, Judas Iscariot.”
The play will feature songs such as “Superstar,” “I Don’t Know How to Love Him,” and Gethsemane.” Tickets for the Hollywood Bowl 2025 are on sale now. Congratulations to Cynthia Ervio!
