Da Brat and Wife Judy Dupart, are revealing the secrets behind their marriage.

Speaking with PEOPLE, the couple shared how they went public with their relationship at Essence Fest in 2020.

“When she grabbed my hand, I was like, ‘Okay!’” Judy said. “At that point, I didn’t care.” However, their management still did. “Everybody was panicking,” Brat says with a laugh. “They were like, ‘Great, let’s all hold hands!’”

Recently, the couple released their book, The Way Love Goes, detailing their journey of love.

Brat spoke about how she had to hide her sexuality from the public.

“I knew that when I discovered women, it should stay private,” Brat explained. “You could lose your whole life and career back then. But they also didn’t want you to be in a relationship with anyone, men or women. So people would think they had a chance with you and you’d sell more records.”

While they are in the public eye, the couple stated that they live normal lives.

Judy said, “We’re normal, and we have emotions. And we have disagreements.”

Brat alleged that Judy ignores her because she works so much.

Judy said she just wants to be the best businesswoman she can be

“I take my business calls in front of her andI put them on speaker!” Judy laughed. “And I want her to see everything I’m doing. It’s not that I want to be away from her.”

The biggest lesson that the couple learned is to respect each other’s boundaries.

“She’s not cool with me being cool with any of my exes,” Brat says. “And because she doesn’t like it, I don’t do it.”

“We did couples therapy a couple of times,” Judy admits.

“But you have to find the right person,” Brat jokes. “It’s hard when you’re famous. You have people who know me from growing up, and they don’t know Judy. So then they take my side.”
