Dallas police officer Amber Guyger has officially been arrested and charged with manslaughter after fatally shooting 26-year-old Botham Shem Jean.
Guyger allegedly mistook Jean’s apartment for hers after a 15-hour shift. When she saw him, she assumed he was an intruder and pulled her weapon. Guyger’s neighbor was rushed to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The Dallas Police Department released a statement Saturday night (Sept. 8) identifying Guyger as a four-year member of its department. The New York Times reports that Guyger was “involved in a shooting in 2017, when she shot and injured a suspect after he grabbed a police taser during a confrontation.”
The Texas Rangers investigated the shooting for three days before choosing to arrest the officer last night, but many are asking why it took so long.
Dallas’ Mayor Mike Rawlings called this case “bizarre” and “confusing to all of us.”
Amber Guyger was released on $300,000 bail last night.
