Damson Idris is looking to accelerate his career to the next level.

At the 2026 Academy Awards Red Carpet, Idris spoke about his future projects and what lessons he learned from Brad Pitt while working on F1.

“This is a long game,” Damson told Zuri Hall on Live from E!: Oscars 2026. “Ups and downs. [He has taught me:] Don’t chase moments, chase legacy. And I’m doing that with the roles that I play. F1 is just the start.”

One of Idris’s upcoming films will have him portraying the legendary Miles Davis.

“There are so many amazing movies to come, from Children of Blood and Bone to [portraying] Miles Davis, I’m really excited for where I go in my career,” said Idris.

In addition to learning from Pitt, he claims that he’s also the fastest frivinger between the two.

“I am. I’m actually faster than Brad,” Idris said.

Nominated for a Best Picture Oscar, F1 stars Brad Pitt as Sonny Hayes, a veteran driver who returns to the cockpit after a long hiatus to mentor a rising prodigy, Joshua Pearce (played by Damson Idris), on the fictional APXGP team.  Featuring Lewis Hamilton, the first and only Black driver in F1 history, as a producer, he shared his expertise to ensure high levels of technical accuracy.

“Everyone has had a hand honing this thing,” Pitt noted, “then Lewis coming in for the ultimate ‘smell test.’ It’s really fun, it’s exciting, it’s adventurous, and you feel it. I do. I hope others do too.”

Pitt also shared how he and Idris learned to really drive the vehicles.

“I think by the time we get to the movie, it’s undeniable that we are driving the cars,” Pitt told the outlet. “We’re not sitting on a sound stage with wind machines…I don’t know where I go from here. You can’t compete with this experience. It’s almost like when we get to the acting scenes, you kind of go, ‘Oh, okay, no driving today!’ It’s really been amazing.”
