In a major casting announcement, Damson Idris has been tapped to portray jazz icon Miles Davis in the upcoming film Miles & Juliette. The film explores an emotional and artistic chapter of Davis’ life, centering on his time in post-war Paris in 1949.
A Parisian Romance
Miles & Juliette will chronicle the love story between a young Davis and French singer-actress Juliette Gréco. Anamaria Vartolomei, best known for Mickey 17, will play Gréco opposite Idris. Their affair, though brief, was deeply formative for both artists as they stood on the brink of cultural stardom.
“What begins as an intimate affair blossoms into a profound connection between two young artists,” the official synopsis reads. Set against the backdrop of Paris’ vibrant Left Bank scene, the film captures a poignant moment in time.
The project is directed by Bill Pohlad, who also co-produces alongside music legend Mick Jagger through his Jagged Films banner. The screenplay was penned by Zora Howard, a Pulitzer Prize finalist. Canadian filmmaker Xavier Dolan is also set to appear in the film in an undisclosed role.
Emotional Depth and Artistic Vision
Producer Bill Pohlad spoke about the project’s dual focus on music and romance. “Though much of my work has centered on music, I’ve always been drawn to the intimacy and complexity of a great love story,” he said.
He continued, “This story isn’t just about Miles Davis and Juliette Gréco — it’s about the universal rhythm of falling in love, of being transformed by it, and of carrying its echo with you long after the moment has passed.”
The film has secured full support from the Miles Davis Estate, lending authenticity to its depiction of the jazz legend’s early years. With international sales handled by Goodfellas and North American rights through CAA Media Finance, the project will be showcased at this month’s Cannes Film Market.
Idris, who recently wrapped production on the Brad Pitt-led Formula 1 film F1, continues to rise as a versatile leading man. He is also currently working on Children of Blood and Bone, a fantasy epic from Paramount.
Miles & Juliette promises to blend music, passion, and history in a powerful retelling of a lesser-known, but deeply human, chapter of Davis’ life.
