D’Angelo will return to the stage for the first time in nine years.

The singer was announced as one of the performers for the 17th installment of Roots Picnic in Philadelphia. The full lineup of the concert was released on Monday, Feb. 17 and it includes performances by Lenny Kravitz, Tems, Jeezy, and more.

D’Angelo’s name appearing on the bill surprised many because this will be the first time in over a decade that he will perform in front of a full audience. In 2021, the “Brown Sugar” singer appeared at a Verzuz at a nearly empty Apollo Theater.

Roots Picnic will take place from May 31 to June 1 at The Mann in Fairmount Park. His performance will be backed by The Roots.
