Imani Archer, D’Angelo’s only daughter, broke her silence on the death of her father.

Taking to social media, Archer shared that her dad’s tragic passing has changed everything for her.

“Dear daddy, there are no words to describe this immeasurable loss,” she wrote on Wednesday, Oct. 15. “I’m in absolute disbelief and shock. You were my biggest hype man, my protector, and my biggest musical inspiration. The kindest and most selfless man. And the best father anyone could’ve ever had.”

“You’re a one-of-a-kind soul, and I’m so grateful you chose me to be your daughter,” Archer continued. “I’m not sure how I’ll be able to live on without you, but I’ll never forget all of your advice and things you’ve told me on how to get through this life.”

Archer went on to write that she misses her father “more than life” and that her heart is broken in “a million pieces” following the news.

“I wish I could hold your hand just one more time,” Archer wrote. She also promised to honor her father’s legacy as a musical icon.

“Everything I do will always be for you,” Archer wrote. “I’m gonna miss you and hearing your voice every single day. I’ll always be your BabyGirl😞❤️‍🩹💔.”

Archer ended her post by writing “f— cancer.”

Regarded as groundbreaking artists, Brown Sugar (1995), D’Angelo’s debut was an instant classic. His masterpiece, Voodoo (2000), featuring the Grammy-winning “Untitled (How Does It Feel),” cemented his status as a soul legend. After a long hiatus, he returned with Black Messiah (2014) alongside The Vanguard, delivering a politically charged, soul classic.

D’Angelo passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at the age of 51, following a prolonged and private battle with pancreatic cancer. After being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, “he was in hospice for two weeks but had been in the hospital for months.”
