D’Angelo’s Star-Studded Funeral Held In Virginia

Over the weekend, the multifaceted music legend, D’Angelo, was laid to rest in his home state of Virginia.

On Saturday, Nov. 1, 18 days after he died from pancreatic cancer, D’Angelo’s funeral was held at Saint Paul’s Baptist Church in Henrico, VA.

Friends and family flew in to town to celebrate the “Brown Sugar” singer’s life. Stevie Wonder, John Mayer, Lauryn Hill and DJ Premier were among those in attendance at the funeral.

“We wish to express our profound gratitude for the overwhelming outpouring of support,” the funeral’s program reads. “Through music, love, and light, Michael D’Angelo Archer’s spirit will shine forever.”

According to a program, the funeral featured performances from Stevie Wonder and D’Angelo’s former band. Pastor Jamal Bryant gave a video tribute.

D’Angelo’s family first confirmed his passing on October 14. According to Variety, he died after a long battle with cancer. The family released a heartfelt statement to the public.

The four-time Grammy winner is survived by three children. His son Michael Archer was born from his relationship with the late Angie Stone. He also leaves behind daughter Imani and son Morocco.

According to Okayplayer, a public memorial for D’Angelo is planned for 2026, although further details have yet to be announced
