En Vogue singer Dawn Robinson issued a statement clarifying she hasn’t been homeless for three years, but she is “temporarily choosing car life.” The intentional choice is for her healing journey she wrote.

In her statement to People magazine, released March 21, Robinson emphasized the importance of understanding her situation.

“I want to make it clear: I am not homeless. I am temporarily choosing car life as part of my journey of healing and self-discovery,” she stated. Robinson described the experience as a “crazy, fun, sometimes scary ride,” underscoring personal growth and resilience.

“For me, failure is NOT an option. Being vulnerable sucks, but here I GROW,” she asserted. Furthermore, she cautioned against unauthorized fundraising campaigns claiming to support her, making it clear that she has not authorized any such efforts and does not want her fans to be scammed.

“I’ve been made aware that some individuals may be requesting funds on my behalf through platforms like Cash App, GoFundMe or other means. I want to be clear: I have not authorized any fundraising campaigns, and I do not want anyone — especially my loyal fans — to be scammed or taken advantage of.

“Your love and support mean the world to me, and I want to ensure that your kindness is not misused. Please be cautious and do not send money to anyone claiming to act on my behalf.”

Background

Robinson’s journey into this unique lifestyle began in 2020 after an intense falling out with her mother while living in Las Vegas. She described her mother becoming “very angry” and directing that frustration toward her, which ultimately prompted Robinson to leave the family home. Initially, she found herself sleeping in her car for approximately a month before relocating to Los Angeles at the suggestion of her former manager. While he offered her a place to stay, logistical issues regarding their pets forced her to move into a hotel, funded by him, for eight months. However, as that arrangement fell through, Robinson began researching car life and ultimately embraced it, officially starting her journey in Malibu on March 9, 2022.
