Donald Glover is assuring fans that the Community movie is on the way.

Speaking with  ET, Glover confirmed that the film inspired by the hit series is still in the works.

“We were just on the text chain talking about it,” Glover said. “We’re working on it right now. I know everybody’s been saying that for forever, but I swear to you, I’m not lying about this. I really think it’s something that’s going to happen soon.”

“Six seasons and a movie” has been the phrase that fans of the show have held onto since it was first dropped in a season 2 episode by Abed (Danny Pudi). Also, Dan Harmon, the creator of the show, has kept insisting that they’re all game. Peacock even ordered the film in 2022, but nothing has come of it.

“We got very close to shooting that,” Community movie co-writer Andrew Guest said. “As the writers’ strikes and actors’ strikes were ending [in 2023], all of our cast were available. All of them wanted to do it. We had a line producer. We had a script that we were in the process of starting to rewrite, and one of our actors’ projects sort of came into conflict in terms of timing.”

Launched in 2009, the show chronicles a “study group” at Greendale Community College. At the fictional institution in Colorado, Jeff Winger (Joel McHale), a smooth-talking lawyer disbarred for faking his degree, forms a Spanish study group as a ploy to woo his classmate Britta Perry (Gillian Jacobs). Instead, he unintentionally gathers a surrogate family of misfits, including the pop-culture-obsessed Abed Nadir (Danny Pudi), former high school quarterback Troy Barnes (Donald Glover), overachiever Annie Edison (Alison Brie), religious mother Shirley Bennett (Yvette Nicole Brown), and eccentric millionaire Pierce Hawthorne (Chevy Chase).

It originally premiered on NBC before moving to Yahoo! Screen for its final season.
