Donald Trump receives his first formal impeachment threat during his second term.

Texas Representative Al Green bought up the matter to U.S. House on Wednesday, Feb. 5th. He announced that he intends to file Articles of Impeachment after Trump made controversial remarks about Gaza.

Rep. Green called Trump’s comments “a desperated deed” and said that he was “promoting actions that could be interpreted as ethnic cleansing.”

Green began his statement by referencing a speech from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. And injustice in Gaza is a threat to justice in the United States of America.”

He continued, “The movement to impeach the president has begun, I rise to announce that I will bring Articles of Impeachment against the president for dastardly deeds proposed and dastardly deeds done.” Green went on to say that he would stand alone if he has too. “On some issues, it is better to stand alone than not stand at all. On this issue, I stand alone, but I stand for justice.”

Donald Trump was impeached twice during his first term. The first time was in 2019 for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. The second time was in 2021 for his role of inciting the Captial Riots on January 6. He was acquitted in both cases.
