Donovan Mitchell spoke candidly Monday about his engagement to singer Coco Jones, calling the union “a blessing.” During Cleveland Cavaliers media day, Mitchell described his fiancée as “amazing” and “a special human being.” He added, “She brings me peace.”

Mitchell said getting to join Jones on her Why Not More tour offered him a fresh perspective into her work. “You realize that she travels and works just as hard as we do,” he told reporters. “Late nights on the tour bus, shows after shows.”

He paused before continuing: “To be able to call her my fiancée, my wife, is a blessing. So I’m grateful.”

The Engagement Announcement and Backstory

Mitchell and Jones revealed their engagement July 11 via Instagram, sharing a romantic shot of them embracing and a video of the proposal. The proposal took place poolside at an oceanfront resort amid swaying palm trees.

In a joint statement to People, their representatives said, “After an amazing season and a sold-out tour, Donovan Mitchell and Coco Jones took a moment to recharge on vacation, which turned into a beautiful engagement.” They added that the couple had been dating for two years and “look forward to building a life together.”

The pair had largely kept their romance private. In earlier interviews, Jones maintained a cautious openness. On Club Shay Shay, she quipped, “I love the internet because they definitely clocked my tea. Little spies everywhere.”

Reflecting on that comment, she also noted, “My music is the outlet I use to tell most of my stories and my truth … some things I keep for myself ’cause this is my life, too.”

Mitchell enters the next season carrying both professional and personal momentum. He recently inked a three-year extension valued at $150 million with Cleveland. Meanwhile, Jones continues to build her music career and was recently featured in a campaign that showcased her new engagement ring.
