In an unexpected twist, music mogul Dr. Dre, known for his groundbreaking influence in the hip-hop world, has set his sights on a new challenge: competing in the 2028 Olympics. The legendary producer, whose real name is Andre Romell Young, recently revealed his ambitious goal to participate in the Los Angeles Games in the sport of archery.
Dr. Dre’s Pursuit of Archery
Dr. Dre’s passion for archery isn’t new. “I started playing around with archery in junior high,” he shared in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. However, it was a recent gift from his son—a full archery setup—that reignited his interest. “I stopped for a while, and my son bought me a setup. I have it set up in my backyard, and I practice at 90 feet.”
For Dr. Dre, this isn’t just a casual hobby. He’s committed to the challenge and is well aware of the qualifying distance for Olympic archery, which is 70 feet. “I feel like I can do anything,” he confidently stated.
Dr. Dre’s determination has caught the attention of two-time Olympic gold medalist Justin Huish. Huish, who also hails from Los Angeles, has publicly offered to train the 59-year-old music icon. “Anyone can do it at any age,” Huish told TMZ. “If you’re really serious about this, hit me up. We’ll make it happen!”
Huish’s offer comes with an endorsement that suggests Dre might have untapped potential in the sport. “You can be a phenom, and you don’t really know,” Huish added, highlighting the possibility that Dr. Dre could excel with the right guidance.
While Dr. Dre prepares for his Olympic journey, he continues to work on his collaborative album with Snoop Dogg, titled Missionary. The album is said to reflect a new level of maturity in their music. But for now, all eyes are on Dre as he transitions from crafting beats to perfecting his bow and arrow skills, aiming for Olympic glory in his hometown of Los Angeles.
