Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson set social media on fire after he shared a behind the scene photo of his upcoming role in the new film, The Smashing Machine.
In the movie, Johnson will play the role of former wrestler and MMA star Mark Kerr. In the photo, Johnson looks unrecognizable as he takes on the new, dramatic role. “First look at Benny Safdie’s The Smashing Machine starring the Rock and Emily Blunt,” he wrote on his Instagram page.
The photo shows the WWE superstar in the ring with a head full of hair, his tattoos covered, prosthetics and extensive makeup.
This movie comes after the 2002 documentary with the same name. According to reports, the documentary took a dive into Kerr’s struggles with his then-girlfriend, substance abuse, numerous training partners and his friendship with fellow MMA star Mark Coleman.
Johnson has also shared photos of him training with Kerr himself. “My training camp became complete when the man himself, Mark Kerr trained with us,” he wrote in his caption. “He’s still a f***ing machine, that can close the distance with scary speed and power.”
He continued, “I’ll forever be grateful to the core for his invaluable knowledge he’s been gracious enough to pass onto me and especially for the brotherhood we share.”
The movie will come out under A24 but no release date has been revealed.
