On the fifth anniversary of his father’s passing, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson says he never got a chance to mend their relationship
to Instagram on Thursday morning, he shared the circumstances surrounding Rocky Johnson’s death and dealing with the aftermath
“He died suddenly, just like that,” he said, snapping his fingers. “And I didn’t get a chance to say goodbye to him,” Johnson said. “And I woke up funky and then I realized, that it was … just hitting me and heavy on my heart.”
“I know a lot of guys out there, like me, had a very complicated relationship with their dad. And now we’re in this club where our dads are walking in the clouds,” he explained.
He went on to share that he got into a heated argument with his father and never got the chance to speak to him again.
“The day before Christmas Eve we got into a massive fight on the phone. And we never reconciled. And I regret that. I will always regret that,” Johnson said.
“And now that he’s gone, I never had that chance to say goodbye, never had the chance to reconcile,” he lamented. “I just wish, man, that I could hug him one more time, and kiss him on the cheek and look him in the eyes and say, ‘We’re good. We’re good.’”
The Moana star then urged anyone who has fallen out with their father to try to make it right while they still have time.
“What I wanna tell you guys out there, if you still got your dad around, heal that. And reconcile that. Because you don’t want to be in a position like me, where sh*t’s f**ked up, you know you want to talk about it, it’s uncomfortable … but take that leap,” Johnson shared. “And I’d rather you be uncomfortable and reconcile and make whole with your dad while he’s here, while you can.”
