Dwight Howard has filed for divorce from his wife, Amy Luciani, marking the latest development in a relationship that has drawn intense public attention in recent days.
Court documents filed Monday indicate Howard initiated the divorce proceedings after less than two years of marriage. The filing states the marriage is “irretrievably broken,” with no hope of reconciliation.
Howard, 39, and Luciani — whose real name is Amber Rose Howard — married on Jan. 11, 2025, following a brief and largely private relationship that became public shortly before their engagement.
The former NBA champion and the Detroit-born rapper and reality television personality kept much of their relationship out of the spotlight early on. Luciani later gained broader recognition through her music career and appearances on MTV’s “Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta.”
News of the divorce filing comes after a series of emotional allegations and social media posts by Luciani over the weekend.
Social Media Allegations Spark Public Attention
Luciani posted videos online in which she discussed struggles within the marriage and made claims about Howard’s alleged behavior.
In one emotional message shared with followers, Luciani said she felt forced to speak publicly about issues affecting her family.
“I can admit right now I feel shame,” she said in a caption accompanying one video. “I cringe when I see couples take their issues to the internet but I was humbled with understanding because now look what I have to do to protect myself.”
She also alleged that child welfare authorities had been called to their home multiple times. In her posts, Luciani claimed the visits ultimately resulted in her daughter being removed from the residence.
The allegations quickly circulated online, prompting widespread discussion across social media and entertainment news outlets.
Howard has not publicly responded to the claims made in the videos. However, legal filings obtained by media outlets show he moved forward with divorce proceedings soon after the posts surfaced.
A Short and Turbulent Marriage
The relationship between Howard and Luciani has experienced turbulence before.
Luciani previously filed for divorce in mid-2025, just months after the couple married. At that time, court documents also described the marriage as “irretrievably broken,” and a mutual restraining order was filed soon afterward.
Despite that earlier legal action, the couple appeared to reconcile and continued their relationship.
Howard remains one of the most recognizable figures from the NBA’s modern era. Over an 18-year career, he earned eight All-Star selections and won an NBA championship with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020.
Luciani, meanwhile, has pursued ventures in music, television and publishing, including releasing the EP “Amy’s World” and launching charitable projects focused on community outreach.
As of Monday, neither Howard nor Luciani has issued an official statement addressing the new divorce filing.
The case is expected to proceed through the courts in the coming months.
