“Euphoria” fans were hit with the news of a delay in the production of the highly anticipated Season 3, with HBO confirming that filming had been put on hold. However, star Storm Reid, who plays Gia on the show, remains optimistic about the eventual completion of the season.
Speaking at the opening of USC’s School of Dramatic Arts’ Drama Center in Los Angeles, Reid expressed her hope that viewers would eventually get to see the culmination of the series. She emphasized the need to handle the show with care, acknowledging the effort and dedication the cast and crew have put into it. Reid stated, “I would hope the viewers, the audience will be able to finish the show. I think we should handle the show with care. We’ve put our hearts and soul into it.”
Reid’s sentiments were echoed by an HBO spokesperson who affirmed the network and Sam Levinson’s commitment to delivering an exceptional third season. The spokesperson explained that the delay was to allow the cast to pursue other opportunities while logistical issues were sorted out.
While the news of the delay may have disappointed fans, Reid admitted that she was not entirely surprised, citing the logistical complexities involved in resuming production. She said, “We would all hope to be able to go back tomorrow, but there are logistics that have to be figured out. So even though I’m a little disappointed, I’m not surprised.”
Reid also emphasized the importance of authenticity in the show’s portrayal of addiction and mental health issues, expressing confidence that this authenticity would continue in future episodes. She stated, “I do know if we do go back that I am sure we will continue to be authentic and represent the real world.”
The delay in production can be attributed to various factors, including scheduling conflicts and external events such as strikes in the entertainment industry. The hiatus between seasons was prolonged due to the dedication of Levinson to his series “The Idol” and lead actress Zendaya’s busy schedule. Additionally, the concurrent WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes further impacted the timeline for Season 3.
Despite the setbacks, anticipation remains high for the upcoming season, with fans eager to see the continuation of Rue Bennett’s journey and the exploration of other characters’ storylines. The series has garnered critical acclaim for its compelling storytelling and ensemble cast, which includes talents like Hunter Schafer, Alexa Demie, Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, Maude Apatow, Colman Domingo, and more.
The tragic death of cast member Angus Cloud in July 2023 added another layer of complexity to the production process, with the upcoming season expected to address the aftermath of his character Fezco’s fate.
