Faith Evans Celebrated With Street Naming In Newark

Faith Evans now has her own street.

​The street in Newark where the legendary R&B singer grew up was officially dedicated as “Faith Evans Way.”

“My heart is overflowing with gratitude. To have Grumman Avenue, the street I grew up on, officially dedicated as ‘Faith Evans Way’ is an honor beyond words,” Faith wrote on social media.

Faith aslo thanked the city of Newark, Mayor Ras J. Baraka, and members of the Newark Municipal Council. Also, her organzation Ryder’s Room, her family, friends, and her devoted fans for helping make the day special.

Evan’s also noted how special the day was because her grandmother, Mae, was recognized by the City of Newark for “her longtime commitment to the community.”

Their commitment to this neighborhood, their resilience, and their love for Newark represent the very spirit of this community. Sharing this special honor with them made the day even more memorable,” Evans wrote.

“Newark has always been at the heart of my story,” Evans continued. ‘And no matter where life takes me, it will always be home. I am humbled by this recognition and inspired to continue giving back to the city. And the people who have given so much to me throughout my life.Thank you, Newark, for this incredible honor. I will cherish this day forever. “

EVANS’ REMARKABLE CAREER

A multi-platinum singer/ songwriter, Evans was the first female artist signed to the Bad Boy Entertainment label. Across her career, Evans has sold over 18 million albums worldwide. Her classic albums include her self-titled debut, Faith (1995), Keep The Faith (1998), and Faithfully (2001). A seven-time Grammy nominee, she won a Grammy Award in 1998 for “I’ll Be Missing You,” a tribute to her late husband, The Notorious B.I.G.

Along with her iconic music, Evans is also a New York Times best-selling author for her award-winning 2008 memoir Keep the Faith.
