Darius McCrary, best known for playing Eddie Winslow on the popular ’90s sitcom Family Matters, is currently being held in a San Diego jail with no bail.
On Sunday (Oct 5), McCrary was taken in at the city’s border between the United States and Mexico on an outstanding warrant for missing a court appearance in Michigan, regarding missed child support, per PEOPLE.
He has not yet been sentenced and is not eligible for bail at this time.
Online booking information lists McCrary as a “fugitive arrest” and he is due in court on Wednesday, Oct 15.
McCrary’s rep, Ann Barlow, told Fox News Digital more about his arrest.
Darius was picked up at the Border of Mexico because he was partnering with a real estate developer that is building homes for the homeless in Tijuana, Mexico. Darius was doing a GOOD DEED when he discovered he had a felony warrant at the Border of Mexico for a missed court appearance,” Barlow said, per the media outlet.
The missed court appearance was for an ongoing child support dispute, whereas Oakland County mailed the notice to appear to Darius PO BOX giving him only 3 days to appear in Michigan Court. Unfortunately, Darius had COVID therefore did not check his PO Box until the day after his court date,” she added.
In 2015, McCrary was arrested for failure to pay child support. At the time, he took to social media as news of his arrest be became public.
“All I’m trying to do is raise my son. #BeingDadIsNotAnOption,” he posted on Twitter, which is now X.
TMZ said he was also arrested in 2023 for failure to pay child support. The media outlet noted he and his ex-wife, Tammy Brawner, finalized their divorce in 2019, with Darius to pay Brawner $1,366 per month in child support.
Aside from Family Matters, McCrary appeared in “Anger Management” and “The Young and the Restless” as Malcolm Winters. He also provided the voice for the Autobot Jazz on “Transformers.”
