Rapper Fat Joe, a longtime advocate for health and fitness, recently praised the weight-loss medication Ozempic, calling it the “greatest invention ever.” Speaking on BigBoyTV, the 54-year-old shared details of his transformative journey and how the medication has become a pivotal tool in his quest for better health.
A Journey Fueled by Loss for Fat Joe
Joe recounted a tragic moment that sparked his dedication to losing weight. “One of my closest friends passed away young, and it hit me hard,” he revealed. “It was like an Ebenezer Scrooge moment—I saw my future at his funeral. I knew I had to change.”
The artist, who has been diabetic since the age of 12, admitted he initially adopted extreme methods to shed pounds. “I went on what I call ‘crackhead mode,’” he said. “Working out twice a day and barely eating anything.”
Fat Joe has since lost over 200 pounds, attributing much of his success to Ozempic, a medication originally designed for type 2 diabetes that is now widely used for weight management. “What it does is play with your brain and tells you you’re not hungry,” he explained.
Joe first revealed his use of Ozempic in October and has been vocal about normalizing the medication. “I don’t understand why people hide it,” he said. “It’s like, just admit it’s helping you—it’s an amazing tool.”
The rapper also highlighted how the drug has redefined his relationship with food. “Ozempic says you can only have two pieces of your favorite foods,” he said with a laugh. “Like this morning, I had toast but only ate the corner and kept it moving.”
Beyond weight loss, Joe envisions broader applications for the drug. “I’m sure they’ll create versions for smoking and drinking,” he speculated. “It’s revolutionary for changing habits.”
Despite his slimmer frame, Joe emphasized why he’ll always go by “Fat Joe.” “We spent millions on the name ‘Fat Joe.’ If it’s just ‘Joe,’ no one knows who that is,” he quipped.
