The fight to have R.Kelly face a bigger sentence behind bars is on.
Federal prosecutors are pushing for the disgraced singer to face up to more than 25 years in prison, stating that he has “decades of crimes” and “a callous disregard for the very real effects that his crimes had on his victims,” as CNN reports.
The prosecution also believes that Kelly should pay a fine between $50,000 to $250,000. We reported that in September, he was convicted of racketeering, as well as acts of bribery, and sexual exploitation of a child, and separate charges of sex trafficking.
In the prosecutor’s filings, they state that Kelly did not show any remorse for what he did to his victims and that his actions were motivated under the belief of his musical talent “absolved him of any need to conform his conduct, no matter how predatory, harmful, humiliating, or abusive to others to the strictures of the law.”
R.Kelly was found guilty of all nine counts he faced in his federal case, including one count of racketeering with 14 other acts and eight counts of violating the Mann Act, an act that prohibits sex trafficking across state lines.
He is set to be sentence on June 29th in the Eastern District of New York.
