Former Mayor Bill De Blasio and his wife Chirlane McCray have announced that they are separating after 29 years of marriage.
During a recent interview, they revealed that they will not be getting a divorce but will separate and date other people. The decision to part ways came after De Blasio asked his wife, “Why aren’t you lovey-dovey anymore?”
The question caused them to have a conversation that led to the outcome of separation. McCray stated that they “can’t fake it.” She continued, “I just want to have fun.” The couple revealed that their marriage began to deteriorate especially when the mayor ran for the White House.
“I thought it was a distraction,” McCray said. She went on to say that she stayed with Bill during his run because it was “not the kind of thing where you can break ranks… That’s part of the difficulty of being part of a package.”
They will continue to share their townhouse in Park Slope. Bill De Blasio and Chirlane McCray married in 1994 and they share two children together who are now in their 20s.
We will wish them the best on their new journey.
