Former Louisville, Kentucky police officer Brett Hankison has been found not guilty on all counts after he was charged with endangering Breonna Taylor’s neighbors during a no-knock raid.
The verdict comes after two weeks of testimony was given. The jury reportedly deliberated for three hours.
Hankinson was accused of endangering Cody Etherson, partner, Chelsey Napper, and their 5-year-old son when he fired shots from Taylor’s apartment hitting inside their apartment on March 13, 2020, during the raid.
said, “Debris started going past my head and face.”
He continued, “I could put two and two together… I was like they think my backdoor is her backdoor. That’s what I thought, which to me is just very unorganized. They didn’t even know whose backdoor that was. They didn’t even know who lived there. So, to me that kind of upset me, It was just reckless to me.”
Breonna Taylor, 26, was shot and killed by the police, while her boyfriend was firing back in fear of the invasion.
In June 2020, Brett Hankinson was fired and was indicted by the grand jury on three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment for the shots that went into the neighbor’s apartment. He was never charged for the death of Taylor.
