Four homeless men were beaten and killed in Lower Manhattan while they were sleeping.
The attacks took place early Saturday morning in the Chinatown area. According to the NYPD, the 911 call came in at 1:49am to alert them about the attacks taking place.
In a press conference that was held on Saturday, NYPD officials stated that when the police arrived on the scene they found one man lying in the street with severe head trauma, and discovered three other men who were also attacked. Another man approached the police with severe head trauma and was taken to Cornell Hospital in critical condition.
As Buzzfeed reports that witnesses reported to the police that they saw a man hit another man with a metal object before leaving the scene.
Police found the 24-year-old man who was carrying the metal pipe and took him into custody. Michael Baldassano, Deputy Chief Inspector, believes that the suspect is also a homeless man and that attacks appeared to be random.
The police are currently investigating these attacks.
