Fred White, the drummer of Earth, Wind & Fire, has reportedly passed away at age 67. The announcement was made by his brother, Verdine on social media.
He wrote, “Dearest Family Friends and Fans… our family is saddened today with the loss of an amazing and talented family member, our beloved brother Frederick Eugene “Freddie” White. He joins our brothers Maurice, Monte, and Ronald in heaven and is now drumming with the angels.”
The post goes on to commend White and his accomplishments throughout his career. “Child protégé, member of the EWF ORIGINAL 9, with gold records at the young age of 16 years old! He was brother number 4 in the family lineup.” See the entire post below.
During his career, White toured with Donny Hathway before he completed high school and toured with his brothers as part of Earth, Wind, and Fire before he reached age 20. He would leave the group in the 1980s and then return to the group for their Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction in 2000.
Before his passing, White continued to sing with Bonnie Raitt and Diana Ross and was on her 2021 comeback album. There is no cause of death for Fred White but we will continue to keep his family and loved ones in our thoughts and prayers.
